Cosmetic Treatments

At Core Medical, we offer a comprehensive range of anti-ageing skin treatments. Prior to any treatments, a full 3D photographic skin analysis will be done to help identify how best we can help you, as every patients skin is different. Our 3D analysis system will show you your skin's pigmentation, UV damage, visible blood vessels and surface contour damage

All our cosmetic treatments are prescribed and delivered by our doctors; Dr Eoin McDonnell, Dr Natasha Gilchrist and Dr Clare Cook who have done extensive aesthetic medicine training.

Wrinkle relaxer injections

Reduce the signs of ageing and smooth facial lines and creases with wrinkle relaxer treatments at Core Medical.

Treatments such as wrinkle relaxers and anti-wrinkle injections, provided by our team of doctors, are simple and safe procedures to help achieve a fresher, more youthful appearance.

Anti-wrinkle injections and facial muscle relaxants are great for frown lines, forehead lines, crow’s feet, smoker’s lines, neck lines, neck anti-ageing and bunny lines.

Wrinkle relaxers are a purified protein, which is injected into facial muscles in small amounts, causing temporary muscle weakening. No local anaesthetic or sedation is usually required.

The effect is long lasting, but not permanent with repeated treatments used to increase the duration of the effect.

Important information regarding your choice of clinic and injector

There are three main Therapeutic Goods Association (TGA) approved wrinkle relaxers on the market in Australia. Core Medical uses one of these.

Don’t be fooled by misleading advertising as to cheaper prices per unit. Different products have different units and may sound cheaper, but in reality you may be receiving no discount at all. Some clinics water down their products so that they appear cheaper per unit.

Always have your procedure performed at a licensed clinic with experienced injectors using full strength TGA approved products.

All patients must be seen by a doctor before their wrinkle treatment. This is a legal requirement. At Core Medical, we insist that all injections are performed by an experienced doctor or our experienced Nurse Injector.

If you have been treated by a nurse without seeing a doctor at another centre, please report this to the Australian Therapeutic Goods Association report line.

Dermal Fillers

When dermal fillers were first used, the product was a collagen derived from animals which led to side effects such as allergic reactions. Today, there are many dermal fillers on the market.

Most dermal fillers now are pure synthetic substances, such as Hyaluronic Acid, that replicate what occurs naturally in the body. As we age we lose collagen and these natural proteins leave our skin lacking volume and elasticity. Most of these products are very similar with slightly different linking structures.

At Core Medical, we use only Hyaluronic Acid dermal fillers. The reason for this is they are the safest, with the least risk for side effects and complications, and if complications do occur, the filler can be dissolved. Hyaluronic acid can be termed a "medium term" filler, with results lasting at least 6-12 months and in some cases up to 1-2 years. It provides an excellent lift and smoothing effect and the brand of filler that we use at Core Medical has been extensively trialled and tested worldwide.

The basic difference between fillers is the molecule size. This can affect the amount of ‘lift’ versus the amount of softness of the product, unfortunately some products are very soft but watery and do not last long. Others are very thick, lasting longer but can be very firm to the touch.

There has been a trend away from permanent dermal fillers as some of these can cause permanent problems and long-term infections or granulomas (a type of lump in the skin).

Before the Procedure

We will ask you to come in for a full pre-procedure consultation that includes a questionnaire, examination and facial 3D photo analysis. Blood thinning medications such as aspirin, anti-inflammatory products and warfarin should be avoided for at least 1 week prior to the procedure. Smokers should cut down or quit at least one week before hand. You should tell us if you have a history of cold sores as there is a risk of reactivation of cold sores with any skin treatment.

The area should be clean and dry with no make-up on. We will provide you with written information about the procedure and get you to sign a consent form before proceeding.

It is important to have an experienced injector as unfortunately there are many inexperienced injectors that can give sub-optimal results with a higher risk of complications. At Core Medical, only experienced doctors or our Cosmetic Nurse administer dermal fillers.

After the procedure

Before you leave the clinic, we will provide you with aftercare instructions to follow and arrange for a review appointment in about 2 weeks. Occasionally at the 2 week appointment, some patients may need a top up of dermal filler or other areas can be aaddressed if needed. If at any point afterwards you are concerned about anything, you should contact the clinic immediately.
